They look related because they are — same era, same design language, visible GEL cushioning in the heel — but they wear very differently day to day.
GEL-1130: the light everyday one
The 1130 was a mid-pack trainer in its day, and that's exactly why it works now: it's the lighter, slimmer and lower-key of the two. The upper is mostly mesh with slim synthetic overlays, the sole is moderately chunky rather than maximal, and it goes with everything from jeans to shorts without shouting. If you want one retro runner for daily wear, this is the easy pick.

GEL-KAYANO 14: the cushioned statement
The KAYANO line was ASICS' flagship stability series, and the 14th version is widely considered a high point — a substantial, well-built shoe with a thick, layered midsole and the most comfortable ride of the retro bunch. It's chunkier underfoot, more structured through the upper, and it reads more "designed": the layered lines and the silver-and-grey palettes are the retro-runner look at its most iconic.
At £100 it's the premium option of the two, and it feels like it — the extra cushioning makes a genuine difference if you're on your feet for long stretches.
